Application
As a matter of principle, students must fulfil the admission requirements analogous to section 63 and 64 of the Austrian University Act (UG 2002), in particular they must provide proof of a “general university entrance qualification”, an Austrian or “European school leaving certificate” or an “equivalent certificate” (e.g. Abitur, International Baccalaureate), as well as the “special university entrance qualification” within the meaning of section 65 UG for the chosen study programme.
An admission procedure is carried out that focuses not on the Matura or Abitur grading, but on a “Matura-plus concept”. The objective of this admission procedure is to find talented and motivated young people who can be expected to learn scientific thinking on their own, and who are ethically motivated. They are willing and able to undergo vocational training and develop the ability to come up with ideas and the will to shape their field. Foreign applicants, for example from other European countries, but also from outside Europe, have equal opportunities, taking into account the legal regulations and fulfilment of the ENIC-NARIC requirements. The admission procedure is based on the principle of an objective, evidence-based selection in several stages.
1st stage
When the application is received , the formalities are checked in line with section 63/64 UG 2002 and the motivation for studying dentistry:
- Preliminary registration form
- CV with passport photo
- Cover letter (A4 page)
- Certified copy of the school leaving certificate required for a dentistry degree*
- Certificates of participation for a two-week internship in a dental practice and in a dental laboratory
- Copy of passport
- Copy of E-card (if your main residence is in Austria)
* If the school leaving certificate required for a dentistry degree has not yet been obtained at the time of application, proof of this must be submitted as soon as possible. In this case, the most recent end-of-year report must be sent in advance.
2nd stage
After a positive assessment of the application documents, applicants are invited to a admission test (written single choice test and personal one-on-one interview) at DPU.
General higher education entrance qualification/special higher education entrance qualification:
Applicants who cannot prove that they have taken at least four hours of science subjects (biology, chemistry and physics) per week at a secondary school after the 8th grade up to the matriculation examination must successfully complete a science prep-course with a subject-related examination before starting their studies at DPU in order to fulfil the special university entrance qualification required for the diploma programme in dentistry.
3rd stage
Once the admission process has been completed, a commission then ranks the candidates who are admitted to the programme based on the results. An academic cohort of around 48 students starts in the summer and winter semesters of each academic year.
